Summers Are for Getting Outside

Most WO Pop-up Poll respondents say they are more active in the summer

Seventy-two percent of the respondents to a recent WO Pop-up Poll said that they are more physically active in the summer. Another 17 percent said that their summer routine is similar to the rest of the year, and 11 percent said they are less active in the summer.

Go-to activities are generally focused on getting out there.

  • Walking/hiking – 78 percent
  • Relaxing outside: 67 percent
  • Gardening/home improvements: 67 percent
  • Swimming: 50 percent
  • Boating/fishing: 50 percent

A break from school also means more family time, with 22 percent saying they spend more time with kids and 6 percent saying they’re involved in summer sports leagues.

The hot summer weather seems a little less conducive to dry-land activities, such as biking (28 percent), running (22 percent) or going to the gym (17 percent).

Sixty-seven percent of the respondents said they were women ODs, and nearly 17 percent said they were male ODs. Another 17 percent of respondents said they were female but not ODs.
